PSHE Curriculum Intent

The PSHE curriculum at Trinity Academy Akroydon is delivered both through the core curriculum and it is woven through academy life and is designed to enable pupils to gain the knowledge and skills needed to help them take care of their mental and physical wellbeing, understand healthy relationships and raise their aspirations. Within the healthy relationships strand, the curriculum focuses on both in person and online interactions so that pupils understand how to be safe and responsible. This ensures that pupils gain an understanding of themselves and how to shape their lives now and for the future.

The core values of empathy, honesty, respect and responsibility drive the curriculum architecture, ensuring that pupils understand and celebrate diversity; value different viewpoints and perspectives; and contribute and challenge respectfully.

Our curriculum delivers the PSHE statutory guidance and beyond; knowledge is structured so that each term and year build upon one another. Core themes are repeated at age appropriate points to enable pupils to gradually build up their understanding of topics; themes are delivered sensitively and inclusively. The study of the key building blocks of the curriculum will help to build pupils’ self-awareness, self-confidence and moral understanding to become independent and responsible members of their own communities and the wider world, giving all pupils an equal opportunity to thrive now and in the future.
