Emotional Health and Wellbeing
Lots of students get support from their school when they’re going through a tough time. Young people can speak to anyone working in school about anything that’s bothering them, whether it’s school related or something different.
Feeling distressed or unhappy from time to time is normal, however if these feelings are persistent or are causing a lot of worry for a person you are concerned about then you may need to seek professional help.
In Calderdale, young people and schools have a range of services including peer support, family support and counselling that can help.
Open Minds allows Calderdale’s multi-agency emotional health and wellbeing taskforce to provide advice, information, support and signposting to young people about emotional health and wellbeing. Their specially designed website has been developed with extensive input and consultation with young people, as well as a range of professionals.
Healthy Minds, a mental health charity based in Halifax, defines mental health not just as the absence of distress but as a state of wellbeing in which each person realises their own potential. The charity recognises that different factors can affect people’s wellbeing and provide a range of services for people according to their needs.
Calderdale Young Carers Service offers a Young Carers Assessment to all young carers referred to the service. This assessment helps identify the best plan of support for the young carer and their family. Because members of the family usually have different needs, the Young Carers Service works with a lot of other organisations to increase the chance of getting the best possible support for the family.
